Replacement of covers at a transformer station

Planar covers of fibre composite material for an existing cable pit

There was a pre-existing structural slab on the site with reinforced concrete cover embedded in concrete. Due to the local conditions, the structural slab could no longer be replaced by a lighter cover. Because of their unit weight of about 200 kg, it was not possible to lift out the existing lids or only with a great deal of effort.

Following to an on-site meeting, it was decided to use Fibrelite series connected covers as the more efficient solution proposal. The existing frame could be reused for this purpose. A substructure was installed that compensated the difference in the height between the glass fibre composite covers and the originally existing lids.

Glass fibre composite covers have been developed precisely for such special application areas. The main requirement was enabling easy access for the operator who must climb into the cable pit frequently. Due to their simple assembly, the glass fibre composite covers can be integrated directly on the existing pit, i.e. the high costs for breaking out and reinstalling the concrete or pit cover frame are avoided.
